Meet Suzanne!
How our story begins
In 2023, Summit County’s animal shelter saw a record high of 157 pets surrendered, many due to financial troubles. Founder Suzanne Ackley knew something had to change. “We just want people to be able to keep their pets at home,” she said, “and one basic way of doing that is to offer food.”
Since the beginning, our community has helped us grow and has supported our mission. It takes a village to make a difference and we’re proud of the one we are a part of. From community members, local businesses, other animal welfare organizations and veterinarians to larger corporate pet food companies, every bit of support has helped make an impact.
We hope that by starting this pet food pantry, the number of surrendered pets in Summit County will decline, and families and their pets will flourish in our community.
Mission
Summit County Pet Food Pantry provides pet food for pets and their families in need in Summit, Lake, and Eagle counties. Our goal as an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit is to partner with local organizations to keep pets at home with their families and out of shelters.
